IT raids 4 business establishments in Samba, seizes record | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 14: To uncover tax evasion, income tax sleuths today swooped down on four business premises at Bari Brahmana and Vijaypur in Samba district. The raided premises included 17 miles hotel, continental transformers, Sudershan steel rolling mills and M/s Chaman Lal Mela Ram hardware dealers. Their owners were accused of tax evasion and hiding actual income while filing their income tax returns, official sources said.Sources said IT sleuths simultaneously raided the steel rolling mill at Bari Brahmana, 17 miles restaurant, continental transformers and the hardware showroom at Vijaypur in the afternoon. The IT men locked the business establishments from inside and did not allow anyone to leave. The scrutiny of the files and other business documents, which were seized, was continuing till late tonight, the sources added. Sources said though it was much too early to categorically declare if the owners of the raided business houses had evaded tax, IT suspected that they had evaded tax worth crores. The hardware showroom owner dealt in Ambuja cement, Tata Tiscon steel bars, JCBs and mixers, besides several other heavy items. The IT was likely to make public the details of seizures tomorrow. Sources, however, said IT sleuths had laid hands on some bank passbooks and other discriminating documents.
