J & K RTI Activists to follow Anna’s Footprint | Now Citizens Won’t allow Delaying Tactics | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu/ Srinagar, 09: Encouraged with Anna Hazare’s successful crusade against corruption, the activists of Right to Information group have warned the Jammu and Kashmir Government not to adopt any more delay tactics in action against corrupt politicians and officers. In an Interview to the National Daily, the senior most member of the J K RTI Movement, Dr. Muzaffar Bhat has vowed to adopt Hazare-type mass movement if the state government fails to take immediate and visible steps to curb corruption in the state. He said, “ we have already sent a letter to the Chief Minister, requesting him for constitution of a joint committee for the proposed state vigilance commission act”. He said J & K is tagged as No. two most corrupt state in the country and it is a shame for everyone. Dr. Bhat also named some top minister’s in the state government against whom cases are pending in the headless State Accountability Commission but the state government is not showing sincerity and will to fight them. It is pertinent to mention here that to support Anna Hazare’s cause, on Dr. Bhat and his colleagues have planned a candle march at Lal Chowk in Srinagar which was postponed following a Bomb Blast there on Friday. Mr. Ayaz Mughal another member of the RTI group also lambasted state government for their snail pace in dealing with the influential corrupt politicians and bureaucrats, he said only clerks or class IV employees of state government are booked by the state vigilance commission, he questioned the procedure adopted by the General Administration in allowing sanction for prosecution against the officers and political figures. “ Today we have monuments of corruption, but unfortunately the government and its agencies are searching them with Microscope”, said Mr. Ayaz. He said enough has been said by the state government on issue of tackling corruption but least is acted on. The people are loosing faith, they want visible action against the rogue elements. Reacting on State Chief Minister’s recent statement supporting Anna Hazare’s crusade, the RTI activist said “we appreciate that our C.M shown solidarity with Anna Hazare, but what about the poor people in Jammu and Kashmir who are forced to swallow the venom of corruption everyday ?” The time has come for them to exhibit sincerity rather than doing lip service and linger on the important issues.
