Killing of Osama has no repercussions on Kashmir: Lt Gen Parnaik | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, MAY 5: A senior army officer of the Northern command Thursday said that the killing of the Al-Qaida chief Osama Bin Laden will not have any major repercussions in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the near future.He said we are fully prepared and alert to handle any type of situation. Commenting on the implications related to killing of Osama Bin Laden by the US Army on security situation in troubled torn state of J&K, General Officer command-in Chief Northern Command Lt-Gen K T Parnaik said, "I don't see any major repercussions in the state of J&K as such but these are issues which only time will tell what actually happened". He said, "It is a global matter. Its not concerning only India and Pakistan". Interacting with media persons at the Nagrotra based 16 corps headquarters on the side lines of a seminar, Lt Gen Parnaik said, "Americans had set for themselves a target which they have achieved. Now Pakistan is under considerable pressure because Osama was killed in Pakistan and there are lots of questions which have been raised". When his reaction was sought whether Indian army is ready to carry out similar operations across the line of control, Lt Gen KT Parnaik said, "I don't think it is fair to draw parallels between what Americans are doing and what we are doing.These are totally different circumstances and the context is also different for us to speak about carrying out operations. He said the Indian army has been handling the situation in Kashmir and at present all the violence parameters have been brought down. He said in the coming months as the snow would start melting chances of infiltration would rise through the traditional routes. Referring to the Udhampur car blast, the army Commander said it is a 'worrisome' development since such an incident never happened in Udhampur and South of Pir Panjal for a long time now. Lt Gen Parnaik said, “We are aware that because of terrorists’ flagging morale and elimination of number of district commanders since the last four-five months, they are making desperate attempts to show their presence but we are taking all precautions.”
