EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 15: With militants pasting posters on walls and electric polls in various areas of Dachan, and Marwah warning people of serious consequences in case they took part in the panchayt polls slated to be held on June 11.
Soon the Government issued the notification regarding the holding of Panchyat elections for the area the posters were seen pasted on walls, electric polls and other places by the militants warning people to refrain from participating in these elections.
This has scared the masses of the entire area who have already suffered a lot due to 21 year long turmoil. Ravi Kumar a social activist from Dachan area said that threat perception looms large in the area after the militants have come with warnings to the people. Accusing the authorities he said they were already apprised of the apprehensions that the terrorists may surface in this hilly range linking Kashmir via Daksam Simthan road but they failed to take timely action.
Kumar said that candidates interested in contesting the Panchayat elections in this far flung and remote area for development for its over all development. He said in the event of these threats and surfacing of militants in hilly reaches of the area people face totally scared. Moreover there is no proper security arrangement from the authorities knowing fully area is sen sitive, he added.
The authorities have even removed the road protection force on Dachan Kishtwar road and the people who had to travel to Kishtwar for purchase of essential commodities are also feeling scared in view of surfacing militants in the hilly belt, said Basant Kumar a local leader.
The militants have given severe warnings to the people contesting elections and those casting their vote. This is a serious matter and the authorities should take immediate steps for deployment of security forces in the area, he said, adding the authorities despite pleas from the locals withdrew the road protection force from the area.
The Government is not also paying any attention for the development of the area as the Pati Mohalla-Dachan road on which work was started over four years back is still incomplete. With the construction of this road there could be frequent movement of security forces in the area which can keep the terrorist at bay, said Ishtiyaq Ahmed a local resident of Patimohlla.
