Top ultra Javed held after Early Times report

KISHTWAR, Aug 24: Acting on an Early Times report that appeared on page 1 in today's edition of the newspaper under caption - Top ultra Saleem Javed stayed in Kishtwar town for 3 years but police could not find him -- police today woke up from deep slumber and arrested the HUJI militant from the house of his uncle in Marwah Colony here.
Though he was staying there for the past three years, the Kishtwar police never bothered to lay hands on him. After ET today carried a report on him and his hideout, police woke up all of a sudden from the deep slumber and arrested the ultra from his uncle's house in Marwah Colony.
Javed's uncle is a retired RDD employee. His house in Marwah Colony, which falls ward No 5, is about 2 km from the town.
In its August 3 edition too, ET had carried a detailed report on the militant activities of Ajaiz Ahmed Sheikh alias Saleem Javed and his alleged involvement in the killing of 12th class student Nasir Ahmed Wani, son of Bhudur Wani of Nowgham, Marwah.
He was apprehended by army on September 14, 2008 along with one AK riffle, 30 AK rounds and one magazine. Three days later, ie on September 17, he was produced by police before first class magistrate, Marwah, who had sent him to 10 days police remand.
He was later flown to Kishtwar town in a helicopter for his questioning but had disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
Even after the lapse of nearly three years, the Kishtwar police were in a fix and did not know how he had disappeared, or on whose alleged orders he was set free.
When Javed was contacted on mobile phone No 9596341090 before his arrest today, he refused to make any comment on how he was released three years back. The mobile phone SIM is registered in the name of his uncle.
"I don't want to meet you or discuss the issue which is closed from my side. Media persons are trying to blow the issue out of proportion," he said while speaking to local scribes over the mobile phone.
The scrutiny of calls made from this mobile phone was likely to provide police some vital clues in the case.
The Kishtwar police had registered a fresh FIR against Javed under section 223/224 of RPC and started investigations. He was likely to be produced before the court of law here on Thursday.
