ET Report
Jammu, Aug 24: Even as a government review committee today ordered to set free 12 PSA detenues of different Kashmir areas, it astonishingly did not find any similar case which deserved its attention on this side of the tunnel too.
Police sources said no case as regards the release of those booked in PSA for petty crimes in Jammu was put forward for examination of the committee.
The review committee met in Srinagar under the chairmanship of principal secretary (home) BR Sharma.
When contacted over phone, Sharma said the committee reviewed cases and took decision to release 12 detenues after their detailed examination.
Asked if there was no case in Jammu for the reviewing of the committee, he said, "The committee reviews cases of the whole state."
In reply to another query, the principal secretary said no case was recommended to the committee and it reviewed and examined cases on its own.
Asked if the released detenues were involved in militancy, or stone-throwing incidents, or any other crime in the valley, he said he did not remember the crimes they had committed.
An official handout said the release of 12 PSA detenues was ordered in pursuance to the decision taken at the united headquarters and in compliance to the instructions issued by chief minister Omar Abdullah.
The committee examined each case in detail and recommended the release of 12 detenues after thorough deliberations, the handout claimed.
Those released included Bashir Ahmed Mir, son of Mohammad Rehmatullah of Nathpora (Bandipora), Qazi Yasir Ahmad, son of Dr Qazi Nissar of Anantnag, Mohammad Ashraf Khan alias Sehrai, son of Shamsudin of Tikkipora Lolab in Kupwara (at present Khalidabad in Barzullah, Srinagar), Ghulam Nabi Sumji, son of Mohammad Ramzan Sumji of Bijbehara, Anantnag, Ghulam Mohammad Bangi alias Mam Bangi, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Ganie Hamam, Baramulla, Mushtaq Ahmed Nalband, son of Ghulam Rasool of Nalbandpora in Chattabal, Srinagar, Bilal Ahmed Hajjam, son of Farooq Ahmed of Bonapora in Nowgam, Srinagar, Gazanfar Ahmed Hajjam, son of Haji Ghulam Qadir of Hajjam Mohalla in Nowgam, Srinagar, Mohammad Iqbal Naikoo, son of Mohammad Ramzan of Sahil Colony, Baramulla, Nissar Ahmed Thoker, son of Mohammad Ramzan of Zararpora, Kulgam, Rouf Ahmed Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmed Bhat of Donipawa, Anantnag, and Shabir Ahmed Batloo, son of Ghulam Mohammad Batloo of Firdousabad in Batmaloo, Srinagar.
Sources said it was surprising to note that the review committee had not found any PSA case in Jammu which deserved its attention.
A total of 45 PSA detenues had been released by the government since October 2010.
