Ex-minister Rampal, son questioned | 4 more arrested in ASCOMS entrance test scam | | Sumit Sharma Jammu, Aug 24: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested four persons, who allegedly work as middlemen in fixing deal of proxy candidates for MBBS entrance test conducted by Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS), for questioning. During its further investigation into the infamous ASCOMS entrance test scandal, the CBI today questioned National Conference leader and former minister Rampal along with his son Lovesh Bharat for their alleged links in the nexus. Rampal and his son were summoned after the four persons arrested by CBI pointed towards alleged involvement of the father-son duo in the impersonation scam. However, after cross questioning they were set free by CBI, sources giving information said. Summons were also issued to senior Congress leader and former Minister GM Saroori besides ASCOMS management for cross questioning. A CBI team headed by Dy SP BS Brar was questioning the arrested four Srinagar based youth till late hours. Sources informed that CBI got some vital clues to reach the depth of the case. Sources said that earlier questioning of Saroori and her daughter was also done in the CBI premises at Rail Head Complex and their statements were recorded. Reports with in CBI also revealed that during initial investigation and the evidences collected in the case so far indicated the involvement of ASCOMS management in the entire scam. The investigation and questioning of the suspects is on to reach the ground of the case, sources added. The scam came to limelight when Nehru Market Police arrested seven impersonators, all medical aspirants, belonging to families with low incomes in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. These youngsters took up the task for a meagre Rs 25,000. An FIR in this connection was registered on August 22, 2010 at Police Station Gandhi Nagar. On August 22, 2010 two girls and five boys-all hailing from outside the State were arrested from Jammu University examination hall for impersonating in the entrance examination for admission to the private colleges for MBBS and BDS courses in Jammu and Kashmir. The impersonators were identified as Zabbar Singh, son of Hemat Ram, resident of Rampura, Rajasthan-beneficiary Sneh Kumar son of Rajinder Kumar, resident of New Delhi, Om Prakash, son of Jodha Ram, resident of Rajasthan-beneficiary Rohint Saini, son of Vijay Saini, resident of Miran Sahib, Moveen, son of Mohammad Akbar, resident of Astham Nagar, Lucknow-beneficiary Lovnish Bharat, son of Ex-Minister and senior NC leader Ram Paul, resident of Rehari, Lalit Kumar, son of Hari Kumar, resident of Bihar-beneficiary Pakshya, son of Davinder Kumar, resident of New Delhi, Satinder Singh, son of Ram Saroop, resident of Bihar-beneficiary Mohammad Sadiq, son of Haji Javed Iqbal, resident of Aligarh, Shruti Kour, daughter of Ravinder Singh, resident of Mathura UP-beneficiary Huma, daughter of Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, and Sheetal Gupta, daughter of Ashok Gupta, resident of Malviya Nagar, Bhopal-beneficiary Arshi Kiran, daughter of Ajit Kumar, resident of Janipur. It needs to be mentioned here that Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed a case against seven persons, including two ex-ministers on alleged impersonation charges in the infamous ASCOMS entrance test last year. CBI registered a case under FIR No 9/2011 against G M Saroori and former Rampal for alleged use of impersonators for their wards Huma Tabassum (Saroori's daughter) and Lovesh Bharat ( Rampal's son) to appear in the medical entrance test conducted by ASCOMS last year. |
