Dispute exists but don't disturb law and order: Chief Minister's strange logic | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sep 4: State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has again said the solution to the political issues of Jammu and Kashmir is on the anvil. He has asked politicians of all opinions to contribute in the pursuit of the solution positively and sincerely. It is strange that the Chief Minister should speak of a possible political solution on the anvil without specifying clearly what the solution is going to be. The Chief Minister is bound by oath of allegiance to the constitution of the State and the country according to which the State of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country. The mere hinting of Omar Abdullah at some political solution on the anvil conveys an impression that such a solution would definitely dilute the integration of the State with the rest of the country. Should a Chief Minister, bound by the oath of allegiance to the constitution of the country, be speaking about a solution that is seen by almost everybody inside and outside the State as some sort of a reaching out to the separatist sentiment? "I have repeatedly made it clear and will continue to advocate that the basic political issues of the State cannot be resolved by economic measures or progress on development front", he said adding that successful tourism season, visiting of over six lakh visitors and equal number of Amarnath Yatries this year has not solved the political problems even as it has largely helped economic betterment of the people in general. Speaking at a function after laying foundation of a mega tourist circuit ' Naagar Nagar' at Kathi Darwaza here, the Chief Minister underlined the importance of peace and normalcy for attaining economic and political goals. Ironical that the Chief Minister on the one hand speaks in appeasing tones to the separatists and on the other blames them for creating law and order problems. If Omar Abdullah genuinely believes the final solution of the problem is yet to come about then why should the separatists be blamed for creating law and order problems? Can there ever be either law or order in a disputed place whose solution is yet to be found and where even the Chief Minister says no development, no progress, and no education will help unless the basic dispute is addressed? The Chief Minister questioned the approach of those who are bent upon creating law and order situation and marring the bread earning opportunity of poor. He said by giving calls for lock outs they directly hinder the traders to undertake their day to day business, undermined the education of students, compel transporters to remain idle, put commuters to lot of inconvenience and debar patients to receive treatment in hospital. "What service they are serving to the people by this kind of attitude", he asked. Can't the Chief Minister be asked that by giving those Bandh and Hartal calls the separatists are mounting pressure for the timely resolution of the dispute which he clearly and publicly accepts? The Chief Minister said that due to the peaceful situation this year his government was able to organize police recruitment rallies in Srinagar city adding that these would continue in other constituencies of the city to provide opportunities of jobs to the youth in the police department. The Chief Minister assured the people that the development project under implementation in the city would be given impetus. The separatists intend to mount pressure for the timely solution of the dispute which the Chief Minister accepts exists and at the same time the Chief Minister blames the separatists for disturbing the law and order situation. Omar Abdullah must understand that it is no use trying to hunt with the hound and run with the deer. It is dangerous for his own political survival.
