Jammu, Sep 4: Politics of provocation is at its peak in the state over Afzal Guru issue. While BJP two days back said that it would consider legal options to register protest against Chief Minister over his remarks , the latter today dared the BJP head on to file a case against him over his Guru tweet. Ruling Congress and two other opposition parties PDP and J&K NPP are maintaining guarded silence when both Omar and BJP are virtually locking horns.
The Chief Minister remained silent over BJP reaction in what they called it as all out offensive packed with three pronged strategy inclduing the move to bring privilege motion motion against Omar Abdullah. However the party leadership did not dilvulge as to what legal options it would be exploring in the matter . Sources within the party said that some leaders were exploring the possibility of moving the court and filing a case under some section permissbile under the circumstances over the issue which has vitiated the political atmosphere across the nation. Sources also say that there are few within BJP who do not want this to happen on account of their proximity with the ruling elite. They wish party should rake it up only to the extent of opposition role .
There are some legal experts on the other hand that in both the steps of bringing privilge motion or filing a case , things and process will not be that easy as there are certain constitutional provisions that provide a sort of 'shield' to Chief Minister or even ministers. To that extent BJP is therefore construed to be actually indulging in politics of provocation and at the same time addressing its political constituency in opposition role. And this is exactly what Omar Abdullah did today when he reacted sharply and hit out at BJP daring it to file a case against him if he has saod anything illegal in his comments.
"They are no one to silence me. I am a citizen of this country and have every right to comment. If I have said anything illegal, let them file a case against me," Chief Minister said today while talking to media in Srinagar. He said no one can silence him other than the people who have elected him.
While both are indulging in such statements to have provocative reactions from each other, all these are seen in the larger picture as only nourishing political constituencies as against an issue that concerns national security . BJP has shook it up in J&K but continues to remain silent over what their ally in Punjab contended few days back over Bhullar , seeking amnesty for him as well. Congress may not have come with such open statements or reactions in the matter but even its guarded response when it says that state Assemblies have a right under democratic set up to pass the resolutions is being construed as protecting its political territories on all fronts . What is ironical is the fact that Congress at one point of time even said that it was not averse to the idea of reviewing mercy petition of Bhullar.
