Kathua Case: 'Verify credentials of Talib Hussain'
4/28/2018 11:11:45 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 28: The 16-page report of the 5-member Bar Council of India (BCI) team on the alleged Kathua murder case has, on the one hand, satisfied those demanding CBI probe into the case to identify and punish the real culprits and, on the other, made people hail the report which wants verification of the credentials of Talib Hussain, who is fighting on behalf of the Bakerwal family.
"At this stage, the committee may point out that a number of documents were provided which indicated that a criminal case is pending against him," reads the report submitted by the BCI panel to the apex court. "Thus, his (Hussain's) credentials are required to be verified," the report further said.
Talib Hussain had allegedly attempted to murder a scholar of Jammu University Kapil Shastri on September 13, 2013. There is FIR No. 226/2013 against him: Talib Hussain V/s 307, 147, 148 Police Station Gandhi Nagar. He is facing trial at Sessions Court Jammu. He was also expelled from Jammu University after an Inquiry Committee found him "guilty".
This Talib Hussain is the same so-called social activist who a few days ago said that 90 per cent of land in Hiranagar belonged to members of a minority community but now it is occupied 100 per cent by members of the majority community. This statement of his is being used by those who have been saying the Jammu's demography is allegedly being changed.
"How could Talib Hussain with doubtful credentials be trusted?" people are asking. The fact of the matter is that the BCI took cognizance of the documents that created doubts about his credentials and the result was that the BCI thought it legally prudent to make him and credentials part of the report, which has silenced all the vested interests.
"The designated Senior Advocates submitted that Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association had raised genuine demands and were agitating for all their demands which have been misrepresented by the media".
Indeed, the BCI report has put Talib Hussain on the defensive and strengthened the hands of those who say in the Kathua case "a conspiracy".
