Jammu, Mar 28: In a collaborative effort aimed at combating drug addiction, the National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) units of Government Degree College (GDC) Khour, in partnership with the District Police Jammu, organized a comprehensive awareness programme on the detrimental effects of drug abuse.
The event, themed “Say no to drugs, Say Yes to health,” witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members alike. The occasion was graced by the presence of SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Lal Sharma as the chief guest, along with SHO Khour Neeraj Choudhary and Chowki Officer Pallanwala, Sh. Danish Qureshi, who served as guests of honor.
SDPO Mohan Lal Sharma, in his address, passionately urged college students to steer clear of the perilous path of drug addiction. He highlighted the profound consequences of drug abuse, emphasizing its detrimental impact on individuals, families, and society at large.
More than 100 students actively engaged in the programme, along with esteemed faculty members including Prof. Deepti, Prof. Sunil Kumar, and Prof. Khalid Sajad Bohra. A highlight of the event was a competition where 15 students participated, showcasing their perspectives on drug addiction through speeches and poetry. Dr. T.K Sharma, the Principal of GDC Khour, shed light on the negative ramifications of drug abuse and encouraged students to combat this menace vehemently. He underscored the pivotal role of today’s youth in shaping a brighter tomorrow for the nation.
The participants were evaluated by a panel comprising Prof. Jozafeen Afzal, Dr. Seema Sudan, and Dr. Tasleem. Shagun Choudhary clinched the first position, followed by Bhavana Sharma and Mansi Sharma securing the second and third positions, respectively. Cash prizes worth Rs. 5000, Rs. 3000, and Rs. 2000 were awarded to the top three winners, with additional cash prizes for other participants.
The successful execution of the event was attributed to the meticulous coordination by Prof. Himanshu Khajuria, NSS PO, and Lt. Shivani Sharma, ANO. Prof. Rashmi Sharma extended a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all involved parties for their contributions towards raising awareness against drug addiction.
The collaborative efforts of GDC Khour, along with the District Police Jammu, underscore the collective resolve to combat the scourge of drug abuse and foster a healthier, drug-free society.
