BJP’s misdeeds push J&K into administrative chaos: Rattan Lal Gupta
6/1/2025 8:56:14 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 1: Adv. Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), has strongly countered the hollow and misleading allegations levelled by BJP leader, stating that the issues being faced by the people of J&K today are a direct consequence of the dual governance system imposed after August 5, 2019 and the subsequent downgrading of J&K stable state into a Union Territory.
In a statement issued here today, Rattan Lal Gupta said that the alleged allegations made by BJP leader that the people facing hardships in JMC, JDA and Housing Departments, all due to the flawed and centralized administrative structure that emerged post-2019. He said that the Centre has vested excessive powers in the hands of the Lieutenant Governor (LG) by amending rules under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. This has not only crippled local governance but also made decision-making opaque and unaccountable.
He asserted that the National Conference has consistently advocated for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, seeing it as the only viable solution to the prevailing administrative disarray and chaos.
Taking a strong exception to Randhawa’s remarks, Rattan Lal Gupta said it is ironic that BJP leaders, who are directly responsible for creating this mess, are now blaming the present dispensation. Instead of pointing fingers at the National Conference, BJP leaders should raise these genuine public concerns before their own party high command in Delhi, which has stripped J&K of its democratic powers and continues to run it through remote control.
The senior NC leader emphasized that the National Conference is not in a position to alter the present governance structure at the higher level, as it was engineered by the BJP government at the Centre. He said that the major decisions are taken by the bureaucrats working under the LG’s command, without any accountability to the people.
Reiterating the party’s stand, Rattan Lal Gupta said that restoration of statehood is the only remedy to end the bureaucratic apathy, revive democratic institutions, and ensure justice to the people of J&K. The National Conference remains committed to this cause and will continue to fight for the rights and dignity of the people.
He said that the elected government led by Omar Abdullah brought Jammu and Kashmir back on track after a period of misrule and administrative paralysis. Within just seven months of taking office, Omar’s government fulfilled many of its poll promises and worked diligently to restore the people’s faith in democracy.
His leadership was marked by a commitment to transparency, development, and responsive governance, which played a crucial role in rebuilding public trust and steering the region towards stability and progress, he added.
He asked BJP leaders to stop indulging in blame games and instead reflect on the damage caused by their ill-conceived experiments in Jammu and Kashmir. Let them introspect and own up to their mistakes before pointing fingers at others.
