Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 20: "The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) is not only dedicated to nurturing sporting talent but also committed to the holistic development of young minds. Through initiatives like the Youth Exchange Programme (YEP), we aim to foster cultural understanding, camaraderie, and national integration among youth from diverse backgrounds." This was expressed by Anuradha Gupta, Director General of Youth Services and Sports, J&K, during the inauguration of the Inter-Divisional Youth Exchange Programme held at the Police Auditorium in Gulshan Ground here.
The event marked the selection of the J&K contingent for the upcoming Inter-State YEP, scheduled to take place in Kurukshetra, Haryana, from July 22, 2025.
Anuradha Gupta presided as the chief guest, joined by Joint Directors Dr Vinakshi Koul (Jammu) and Mohammad Rashid Kohili (Kashmir) as guests of honour. Deputy Directors Jitender Mishra (Central) and Megha Bogia (Planning), along with Accounts Officer Sunil Kotwal and District YSS Officer Sukhdev Raj Sharma, were also in attendance.
Addressing a vibrant gathering of youth and departmental officials, the Director General emphasised the transformative potential of such exchanges and said that participants are not just representatives but ambassadors of J&K's rich heritage. She remarked that these programmes offer invaluable exposure, enabling young minds to embrace new perspectives and adopt best practices from across the nation.
She further assured that the department would expand such initiatives, ensuring more frequent opportunities for youth engagement. Commending the organisers, she lauded the seamless execution of district and divisional-level programmes.
Earlier, Joint Director Jammu underscored the importance of cultural exchange in her welcome address, highlighting the department's achievements. Joint Director Kashmir delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the Director General's leadership in steering the department with vision and efficiency.
The event also featured captivating cultural performances. In the folk song category, troupes from Kathua and Budgam captivated the audience while Doda and Budgam won accolades in folk dance. Avishi Gupta, Simran and Muntaho and girl other speakers from both divisions impressed the judges in the declamation contest.
The proceedings were skilfully conducted by Mohammad Yousuf Dar, renowned anchor and physical educationist of the department.
