7/21/2025 10:04:24 PM
Early Times Report
LUCKNOW, July 21: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has gone beyond just arresting criminals-through its zero-tolerance policy and effective courtroom advocacy, it is ensuring their conviction. Launched a year ago on the CM's instructions, Operation Conviction has become a decisive initiative for swift and strict punishment in serious crimes. In just one year, over 15,600 criminals have been convicted for heinous offences like murder, robbery, kidnapping, and POCSO Act violations. During this period, 47,149 serious cases were identified, with 19,584 disposed of in court, leading to the sentencing of 15,641 accused.
Director General (Prosecution) Dipesh Juneja stated that Operation Conviction is being implemented across Uttar Pradesh to ensure the strictest punishment for criminals involved in serious offences. In the past year alone, 47,149 cases of crimes such as murder, robbery, loot, kidnapping, POCSO Act violations, rape, and theft were identified. Of these, 19,584 cases were decided in court, resulting in the conviction of 15,641 criminals.
Providing further details, he said that of the 9,942 murder cases identified, 4,137 were decided, with 3,411 convictions and a conviction rate of 82.45%. In POCSO Act/rape cases, 27,074 were identified, and 9,140 decided, leading to 6,075 convictions-a 66.46% conviction rate. In robbery cases, 203 out of 461 were settled, with 174 convictions and a conviction rate of 85.71%. Similarly, in 1,969 loot cases, 780 were decided, with 740 convictions, yielding a conviction rate of 94.87%.
Additionally, out of 7,573 cases of theft/housebreaking, 5,246 cases were settled, with 5,175 convictions and 71 acquittals. The conviction rate in this case is 98.64 percent. Similarly, out of 130 kidnapping cases, 78 were settled, with 66 resulting in convictions and 12 in acquittals. Its conviction rate was 84.61 percent.
DG Juneja emphasized that technology has played a key role in enhancing the impact of Operation Conviction. Innovations such as the e-prosecution portal, case tracking systems, and virtual court hearings have been widely adopted. Prosecution officers are receiving regular training at the district level, and rapid case reviews are being conducted to ensure timely justice.
