Early Times Report DODA/BHADERWAH, July 21: In a joint press conference held today at Chenab Valley, Megh Sabha Jammu and Kashmir and the SC/ST/OBC Confederation strongly demanded Scheduled Caste (SC) representation in the Common High Court of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. The press meet was conducted under the chairmanship of Girdhari Lal Bhagat, Chairman of Megh Sabha, and Bhagat Amarnath, District President of the SC/ST/OBC Confederation. Both leaders expressed deep concern over the continued exclusion of SC judges from the High Court since its establishment in 1928. They highlighted that many deserving candidates, who have reached Super Time Scale and meet all eligibility criteria, have been repeatedly overlooked for elevation. The speakers expressed gratitude towards the Union Government, particularly the Ministry of Law and Justice, for issuing clear directions to the Hon'ble Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir to recommend the name of an SC judge. However, they lamented that even after one year, no concrete action has been taken, which is further deepening frustration within the community. They earnestly appealed to the Prime Minister of India and the Hon'ble Chief Justice of India to intervene and issue fresh directions to the Chief Justice of the J&K and Ladakh High Court to expedite the nomination process. "This is not just a demand; it is the voice of nearly half of the population of Jammu and Kashmir," they stated. Prominent attendees at the press conference included Surjeet Bhagat, Baldev Bhagat, Amarjeet Singh, Fulail Singh, Jagtar Singh, Rajesh Bhagat, and several others. |
