Social media should not have complete freedom. | | Vijay Garg | 7/22/2025 10:14:06 PM |
| Explaining the need for curbing the divisive trends stemming from anti social expression on the alleged social media platform, the country’s top court has revealed the need for self-regulation. Indeed, Justice BV Nagratna and Justice K.V. Viswanathan’s bench, considering a petition filed by a person, on which an FIR was filed in many states due to an objectionable post against the gods and goddesses of the particular religion. The court said that citizens should understand the value of the right to freedom of expression. At the same time, self-restraint should be exercised using this right. The court has warned that the government gets a chance to intervene if it doesn’t seem to curb divisive trends on social media. Which will not be a good condition. Undoubtedly, the messages spreading hatred and hatred in the society remain a serious challenge to the Indian environment of harmony. That is why the court had to say that it is considering issuing guidelines for regulation. In fact, the court believed that the freedom received under Article 19(2) of the Constitution is not at all unlimited. If he is disturbed by social harmony then the government gets a chance to interfere. which is not a good sign for a democratic country. No one wants the freedom of his expression to govern the government. In the right way people should understand that it is the fundamental duty to maintain unity and integrity of the country. The court also questioned why citizens cannot restrain themselves? Vijay Garg Retired Principal Educational columnist malout Punjab Punjab
The court believed that people could only enjoy the freedom of expression when it was expressed in a restrained manner. The apex court bench believed that there should be brotherhood among citizens, only then hatred can be fought in the society. Only then can we build the society of Ganga-Jamuni culture. By the way, questions have also been raised about government action regarding the regulation of independent expression in many states. Many places expression of ideas and making cartoons etc. which has been described by the authoritarians by the spirit of revenge. has been alleged that no action is taken on the arbitrary expression to suit the ideology of the ruling party. But the same expression in the government of other political party in another state becomes a crime. It has been said that dissolving a limit by freedom of expression can be lousy or objectionable but it should not be placed under the category of crime. It should be seen in the light of law. It is unquestionable truth that social media platform has been fiercely abused by various political parties and organizations. At the same time, the fault of the people is that the parties share the content with the agenda of the particular, without reading, in other people and groups. Indeed, common citizens should be trained on how their restrained behaviour should be on social media. A lot of people don’t know how much sensitivity the content being shared on social media. Many people inadvertently share such content in other individuals and groups that may be anti-social. Indeed, they could not find the hidden agenda of the one making up his original content. Sometimes people in Bhavishya take such steps. Undoubtedly, no person is free from emotional debilities, but still he must churn out the rationality of the material being shared. In fact, social media has become an weapon today that could prove fatal from the slightest omission. In fact every citizen must be so conscious and aware that he can understand the intent associated with material coming from different sources. Undoubtedly, restrained, logical and cautious response allows us to enjoy the fundamental right of expression. Vijay Garg Retired Principal Educational columnist malout Punjab Punjab
