White Collar Terrorism Needs to Be Nipped in the Bud
Omkar Dattatray11/19/2025 10:52:10 PM
White collar terrorism seemingly a new and recent phenomenon came to fore in the 10/11 Delhi vehicle blast in which 13 innocent civilians were killed and dozens were wounded and are being treated in hospitals. Until the white- collar terror module appeared in the recent terror attack near Red Fort Delhi, we were unaware of it and had not heard about while collar terrorism. It seems that this seemingly a new phenomenon was dormant up till it showed its ugly face in Delhi bomb blast, but it was there but was in sleepy mood and the height is that even our intelligence agencies were unaware of it until it appeared in recent Delhi vehicle bomb attack. There is urgent need to take the white- collar terrorism very seriously and dismantle it before it is too late and will harm the nation more and will become out of control. So, we say the new phenomenon that is called rightly white- collar terrorism should be nipped in the bud before it does more harm. It needs to be dismantled urgently to save the innocent precious lives and national and private properties. It is unsuspecting that a highly educated, professional qualified and well to do youth will take arms and indulge in acts of terror. It was also unsuspecting that well educated and technically qualified youth such as doctors, engineers and the like will be radicalised and indoctrinated but it happens in our country astonishing all. The white- collar terror module should be curbed and contained so that it will not be able to do inhuman and anti- God acts and harm the society. It is very unfortunate, disturbing and nauseating as well as chilling that highly skilled and qualified youth fall prey to radicalisation ,extremism, militancy and terrorism and train themselves to the determent of the Indian state and inflict much pain to the people and public system and therefore it is in the fitness of things to curb this new form of terrorism and clip their wings before they inflict unbearable suffering and pain to the innocent people in the country. The white-collar terrorism should not be allowed to spread its network and tentacles in various parts of the country especially in those areas where their exist. The white- collar terrorists and their ecosystem, underground and overground sympathisers should be identified and action taken against them so that white collar terrorism will not find oxygen for itself and so that it will not fructify and flourish and give bad name to the system and shame all of us. Therefore, the very roots of white- collar terrorism should be uprooted to save the country from their nefarious and barbaric attacks. White collar terrorism is a big curse and it should be unearthed and demolished to save the society from its harmful effects. The sooner it is done the better. How it is that highly qualified youth are lured and motivate to embrace terrorism despite the fact that they are trained to serve the ailing people and contribute to the wellbeing of the humanity and the nation. It is a matter of grave and serious concern that now highly qualified and professionally trained youth such as doctors, engineers and other professionals take to terrorism instead of following their dharma of serving the ailing society and it is worrisome and shameful, thus needs to be dismantled to save the society from its ill effects. J&K police described an inter-state and transnational terrorist module it recently cracked ‘white collar terror ecosystem.’ In counterterrorism vocabulary, this an expression both seemingly novel and unsettling—because it is in contradiction with the imagery deeply embedded in our collective psyche, where radicalisation is a product of the disenfranchised, the marginalised, and the misled. While the links between the series of arrests in Haryana, Kashmir UP, and the blast in Delhi that claimed at least 13 lives remain under probe, their framing warrants close examination. The notion of white- collar terrorism –professionals and educated individuals weaponizing their professional legitimacy, academic networks and accesses to financial and institutional resources for violent ends. The Delhi blast has brought a terror module of radicalised doctors into public glare. The moot question arises why would a bunch of highly educated and radicalised individuals ,plotting what they though were perfect terror strikes without leaving a trace ,commit the silly mistake of getting posters pasted in J&K carrying the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed’s proclamations ,which finally blew their cover away? It was possibly a cocky radicalised medical practitioner who wanted to negate a claim by union home minister Amit Shah on June 30 that no local had joined any terror outfit in the past six months, adding all terrorists around that time in the UT were of foreign origin. Security forces learnt that Dr Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie ,32,a junior doctor at Al Falah university in Faridabad ,persuaded his handler Maulvi Irfan Ahmad Wagay ,31 to get the Jaish posters pasted on October 18-19. The, posters appeared in Bunpora in Nowgam area on the outskirts of Srinagar. Scribbled in broken Urdu, they were signed by Commander Hanzala Bhat, dated October 17. They, warned the locals against sheltering or helping security forces or the J&K administration. One poster stated –‘’some people are supporting security forces. This is the last warning –we know who are the informers. They, won’t be spared.’’ Such posters remind us of the similar poster of warning in the hay days of militancy in Kashmir in 1989-90 and since then till the GOI abrogated article 370 and 35A.Srinagar’s SSP Dr G.V.Chakaravarthy found the latest posters odd ,got an FIR registered under various sections of the UAPA, Explosive Substance Act and Arms Act, and ordered a probe .It unravelled one of the country’s biggest terror module comprising doctors ,engineers and other professionals .Three youth who pasted posters –Arif Nisar Dar, Yasir -ul-Ashraf and Maqsood Ahmad Dar –all residents of Nowgam ,claimed they were acting on instructions from local cleric ,Maulvi Irfan. The contact list on Maulvi Irfan’s mobile phone had quite a few doctors, which made police suspicious. They then learnt that he was employed for five years as a paramedic at the Government Medical Collage Srinagar before becoming a Maulvi ,hence his association with doctors. Upon interrogation, the police found he was a ‘’highly radicalised overground operative’ having links with Jaish handlers in Pakistan and Afghanistan. His operations were not limited to Kashmir but spanned across India. He had radicalised many youths of the region with his anti-India propaganda, including a bunch of highly educated professionals. Maulvi Irfan’s interrogation led the local police to Zameer Ahamad Ahanger 29,.He was arrested on October 25 from Wakoora village at Ganderbal Kashmir. Ahanger had provided logistical support on Maulvi Irfan’s directions. Interrogation of both Maulvi Irfan and Ahanger revealed the network of radicalised doctors. The car bomb explosion near Red Fort Delhi was the handiwork of the terror network consisting of doctors. A few days before the car bomb,a J&K police team visited Haryana’s Faridabad and UP’s Saharanpur. From Faridabad Al Falah on October 30-31night,they arrested Dr Ganaie -Shakeel ,who hails from Koil village of Pulwama. He was an assistant professor in the department of Physiology at Al Falah .Dr Ganaie was also highly radicalised and his interrogation led to the arrest of Dr Adeel who hails from Kulgam. Thus, we can say that J&K police had done a very commendable work as they have broken the terror module consisting of doctors and other highly professionals. But there is further need to accelerate the operations against white collar terrorists so that they are unable to harm India. Following the car bomb blast few other arrests of doctors were made and the tempo of demolishing the white- collar terrorism should continue till it is fully dismantled.
