Reasi, Dec 13: Government Polytechnic College Reasi today organised a comprehensive awareness session on the dangers of dog bites, preventive measures, post-dog bite protocol, and first aid training for the students and staff members of the institution. The event aimed to educate the participants about the importance of responsible behavior towards street dogs and the necessary precautions to be taken to prevent dog bite incidents. The session was conducted under the guidance of Principal, Government Polytechnic College Reasi, Er. Arun Bangotra, Chief Medical Officer, Reasi, Dr. Mohd Ashraf Kohli and Medical Superintendent, Dr. Gopal Datt. While speaking on the occasion Principal Er Arun Bangotra, emphasized the importance of such awareness sessions in building socially responsible citizens who respect both human and animal life. In his address, Er. Bangotra highlighted the significance of understanding the behaviour of street dogs and the protocols to be followed in case of an emergency. The resoursce person for the session were Dr. Barath (DNB Medicine), Senior Pharmacist Shri Naresh Kumar, and Mr. Pawneet Pal Singh (JSN). Guest Lecturer, Ms. Esha, also shared her insights on the 5 freedoms of street dogs, emphasizing the need to treat animals with compassion and respect. The awareness session was attended by 250 students and staff members, who actively participated in the discussions and showed keen interest in the topic. In his address Dr. Barath emphasized that many dog bite incidents are preventable through simple behavioural precautions. He explained the correct first aid steps in case of a bite, including immediate washing of the wound, avoiding home remedies, and seeking medical attention for post-exposure vaccination. The participants were also informed about the essential safety guidelines such as avoiding sudden movements around dogs, not disturbing them while they eat or care for puppies, and refraining from throwing stones or teasing them. The event highlighted the importance of awareness and education in preventing dog bite incidents and promoting a culture of compassion and respect towards animals. It is expected that the participants will spread the message within their communities, contributing to a safer and more harmonious environment in Reasi. The programme was coordinated by Nodal Officer, Mr. Ajay Dogra, Sr. Worshop Instructor urged the students to act responsibly, avoid cruelty towards animals, and support humane dog population control initiatives.
