Police Station City Jammu cracks major ATM theft and cheating case; accused arrested with multiple stolen ATM cards

JAMMU, Jan 27: Police Station City, Jammu has successfully cracked a major ATM theft and cheating case involving illegal transactions amounting to ?54,890, reflecting swift and effective police action against financial frauds. On 24.01.2026, an e-complaint was received regarding fraudulent withdrawal of ?40,000 in four transactions of ?10,000 each and shopping worth ?14,890 using the ATM card of the complainant, Pooja Devi, resident of Mansar, Udhampur.
Accordingly, FIR No. 04/2026 under Sections 318(4)/303(2) BNS was registered and investigation was initiated.
During investigation, through technical surveillance and sustained efforts, the Police Station City Jammu team led by SHO Inspector Shakti Devi, assisted by PSI Kumar Vishesh, under the supervision of SDPO City North Jammu, successfully identified and apprehended the accused.
The accused has been identified as Aijaz Ahmed Malik S/o. Ghulam Ahmed Malik, resident of District Kulgam. On his arrest, nine stolen ATM cards of different banks were recovered from his possession along with cash amounting to ?3,000 and clothes purchased from the cheated money. The recovery of multiple ATM cards indicates the accused's involvement in organised ATM fraud and cheating cases. Further investigation is underway to ascertain his involvement in other similar offences and to recover additional stolen property.
