Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 27: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jammu marked Republic Day with deep patriotism and reflection, remembering the countless sacrifices that shaped India's freedom and constitutional journey. The occasion was marked by a powerful and inspiring address delivered by Prof. (Dr.) D. N. Sharma, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Jammu.
In his address, Prof. (Dr.) D. N. Sharma reflected on the many struggles and upheavals the Nation has witnessed over the years and emphasized that the freedom enjoyed today is the result of the supreme sacrifices of innumerable martyrs. Paying homage to those who laid down their lives for the Nation, he stated that it is because of them that citizens breathe freely and celebrate independence. He urged everyone to preserve this hard-earned freedom by following rules, maintaining discipline and safeguarding the Constitution.
Highlighting the spirit of the Indian Constitution, Prof. Sharma stated that it is founded on the enduring pillars of equality, justice and duty, values that must guide both institutions and individuals. While remembering legendary freedom fighters such as Mahatma Gandhi, Lala Lajpat Rai, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar, Shaheed Shivaram Rajguru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and Subhash Chandra Bose, he emphasized that the Nation's freedom struggle is also shaped by the sacrifices of numerous unsung heroes, many of whom never received the recognition they truly deserved.
Speaking about one such unsung hero, Batukeshwar Dutt, a close associate of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Prof. Sharma recalled the historic incident at the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi, where non-lethal bombs were thrown with the sole intention of awakening the conscience of the Nation, without causing harm. He highlighted Batukeshwar Dutt's subsequent imprisonment and the immense hardships he endured, including his confinement in the Andaman Cellular Jail.
Prof. Sharma further shared that Batukeshwar Dutt later received medical treatment at AIIMS Delhi and was treated by its doctors, who considered themselves extremely fortunate and proud to have had the opportunity to care for such a distinguished patriot.
