early times report

Jammu, Jan 29: In a swift and decisive operation,Jammu (Rural) Police in Domana successfully busted an impersonation and cheating racket by arresting two accused persons who were fraudulently posing as officials of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).
The arrested accused have been identified as:-
1.Mohd Shabiq, S/O Ghulam Hussain, R/O Upper Thather, Bantalab, Jammu.
2.Mohd Zaffar, S/o Mohd Sadeeq, R/o Upper Thather, Bantalab, Jammu.
The accused falsely represented themselves as JMC officials and made deceptive claims related to official municipal procedures for house construction. By misrepresenting their identity, they induced aggrieved persons to transfer money through online transactions and cash on the pretext of document preparation.
Based on inputs and a complaint received at Police Station Domana, the police acted promptly. Verification conducted with the Jammu Municipal Corporation confirmed that the accused were not affiliated with JMC in any capacity, thereby establishing the fraudulent nature of the transactions.
Accordingly, FIR No. 23/2026 under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Domana. Investigation was immediately set into motion, and a dedicated team of officials from Police Station Domana, led by Insp.Varuneshwar Singh, SHO Domana, was constituted.
Through sustained efforts, the accused were tracked, apprehended, and arrested within 48 hours of the FIR registration.
During the course of investigation cash had been taken from the aggrieved persons, were recovered from the possession of the accused.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain their wider linkages and to uncover the complete nexus of the racket. Arrests of more accused persons and further recoveries are also expected.
Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and to verify the credentials of anyone claiming to be a government official before making any payments or sharing personal or financial information.
