Exposure Visit of SKUAST-J students for Verka held

JAMMU, Mar 14: Under the dynamic leadership of Prof. B. N. Tripathi, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and able guidance of Dr. S. K. Gupta, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu, the BIS Student Chapter, SKUAST-Jammu organized an exposure visit of students from the Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry to Verka Milk Plant, Gurdaspur (Punjab) on 13.3.2026.
The visit was conducted as part of the regular academic and outreach activities under the guidelines of the BIS Student Chapter. The authorities of Verka Milk Plant made special arrangements for the students with the active guidance of Sh. Tilak Raj, Incharge BIS Jammu, and in consultation with Mr. Sumit Kashyap, BIS Jammu Branch. During the visit, the students were familiarized with the various stages of milk processing and value addition carried out at the plant.
They observed processes such as collection of raw milk, pasteurization, spray drying for milk powder, and preparation of dairy products including butter, curd, kheer, lassi, and other milk by-products. The students also visited the Microbiology Laboratory, where they were shown different quality control and standardization tests carried out to ensure the safety and quality of milk and dairy products. The visit was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Aditi Lal Koul, Mentor BIS Student Chapter (Veterinary Sciences) and Dr. Subhash C. Kashyap, Mentor BIS Student Chapter (Agriculture Sciences) with active support from Dr. Ankit Magotra, Nodal Officer, BIS Student Chapter, SKUAST-Jammu.
