Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 29: The Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu, under the leadership of Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, successfully organized a Yoga Awareness Programme on April 29, 2026, at the Boys’ Hostels, University of Jammu. The programme was conducted under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (100-Days Campaign) in collaboration with the Provost, Boys’ Hostels, University of Jammu. It was also organized as a continuation of the Viksit Bharat initiative, reinforcing the vision of building a healthy, disciplined, and drug-free nation.
The event was supervised by Dr. Vimal Kishore, Assistant Professor, and formed part of a broader initiative inspired by the visionary efforts of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir aimed at combating drug abuse and promoting a healthy, drug-free society across the Union Territory.
Dr. Mahesh Chander Sharma, an eminent personality in the field of Yoga, Ayurveda, and Physical Fitness, graced the occasion as the keynote speaker. The primary objective of the programme was to sensitize the youth about the harmful effects of substance abuse and to encourage the adoption of a disciplined, healthy, and active lifestyle through yoga and physical activities. Participants displayed great vigor and commitment, actively engaging in the yoga sessions and symbolizing their support for a drug-free society.
This initiative aligns with the ongoing efforts of the Jammu & Kashmir administration, which continues to take strong and consistent measures to curb drug abuse through awareness campaigns, community engagement, and youth-oriented programmes. Such yoga-based initiatives serve as effective platforms to channel the energy of young individuals towards constructive activities and reinforce positive behavioural change.
The programme concluded with a strong message of unity, responsibility, and collective action, emphasizing that the fight against drug abuse requires sustained efforts from every section of society.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of all boys’ hostels, along with faculty members, non-teaching staff, and members of civil society. The large turnout reflected growing awareness and a collective resolve to stand united against the menace of drug addiction.
Among other dignitaries present on the occasion were Prof. Satinder Kumar, Provost, Boys’ Hostels; Dr. Ripu Daman (Warden, SVBH); Dr. Satya Priya (Warden, JLBH); Dr. Surinder Sharma (Warden, BJBH); Dr. Nitin Sharma (Resident Warden, JLBH); Dr. P.
