‘SAMVAD’ Police Awareness programme on substance abuse prevention at JU’s UIET, Kathua Campus

Kathua, May 1: Kathua Campus (JU), University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), organized a Police Awareness Programme titled “SAMVAD: Interactive Dialogue on Substance Abuse Prevention”, under the 100-day intensive Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Drug-Free India Campaign). The programme aimed at sensitizing students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promoting a drug-free society.
In his message, Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in the present context, where substance abuse has emerged as a serious social concern, particularly among the youth.
Dr. Rockey Gupta, I/C Principal, UIET, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu, emphasized the significance of awareness, early intervention, and community cooperation in effectively combating this growing menace.
The resource person, Sh. Ravinder Singh, DySP, Headquarters Kathua, cited real-life examples to sensitize students about the adverse effects of drug consumption. He also motivated them to channelize their energy in a positive direction for building a healthy and joyful society. PSI Anu Radha, SHO, Women Police Station Kathua, highlighted the legal consequences associated with drug peddling and consumption.
This was followed by an interactive session wherein students shared their views and raised queries.
The session witnessed enthusiastic participation, with both police officials addressing concerns effectively and offering practical guidance on resisting negative influences and making informed life choices.
Earlier, Dr. Sourabh Shastri, I/C Coordinator, UIET and I/C Head, MCA, Kathua Campus, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude to the officers for conducting the awareness programme under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to sensitize stakeholders of UIET.
Er. Javaid Ahmad Rather, I/C Head, CSE, UIET, delivered the vote of thanks, while Dr. Reemani Verma, Assistant Professor, UIET, coordinated the entire event.
