Early Times Report

Jammu, May 1: On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, hundreds of laborers gathered at the Ware House-Nehru Market, the largest wholesale grain mandi in Jammu, and collectively pledged to make the region drug-free.
The event was organized by the Traders Federation Ware House Nehru Market in collaboration with the Jammu district administration. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sh. Sher Singh attended as the chief guest, while SDPO South Sh. Kuljeet Singh was present as the guest of honor.
Addressing the gathering, ADC Sher Singh highlighted the administration’s ongoing 100-day anti-drug campaign, being carried out in coordination with the Jammu Police. He emphasized that eradicating the drug menace requires active participation from society and urged citizens to support the administration in this mission.
SDPO Sh. Kuljeet Singh also spoke on the occasion, outlining the steps being taken by the police to curb drug abuse. He appealed to workers and employees of the mandi to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs in their respective areas and to assist law enforcement agencies.
Earlier, Federation President Sh. Deepak Gupta welcomed the dignitaries by presenting them with a ceremonial chunri. President of the Ware House Nehru Market Labour Union, Ashwani Kumar, raised several issues faced by workers and sought support from the administration.
During the program, a formal pledge was administered under the leadership of ADC Sh. Sher Singh, wherein participants vowed to stay away from drugs and help prevent others from falling into addiction.
The event concluded with a bhandara, marking a strong collective commitment towards a drug-free Jammu.
