Jammu, May 2: In a significant step towards the promotion and preservation of regional language and culture, Dogri Sanstha Jammu today honoured Vivek Chauhan, Principal of Oriental Academy, Jammu, for introducing Dogri as a subject at the primary level in his school.
On the occasion, office bearers of Dogri Sanstha Jammu, including PadmaShri Prof. Lalit Magotra (President), Prof. Veena Gupta, Inderjeet Kesar, Dr. Ashok Khajuria, Sushil Begana, and Pawan Verma, felicitated Vivek Chauhan with a bouquet, shawl, and a memento in recognition of his commendable initiative. Speaking on the occasion, Vivek Chauhan shared that around 400 students in the school are currently studying Dogri, reflecting a growing interest among young learners in their mother tongue. He emphasized that introducing Dogri at the primary level not only strengthens linguistic roots but also nurtures cultural identity from an early age.
President of Dogri Sanstha Jammu, Prof. Lalit Magotra, lauded the initiative and described it as a “landmark step” in the revival and promotion of Dogri language. He remarked that language is the soul of a culture, and such efforts at the grassroots level are essential to ensure its continuity. He further added that introducing Dogri in schools would instill pride among children about their heritage and encourage them to connect deeply with their traditions.
Prof. Magotra also appealed to other educational institutions to follow this example and incorporate Dogri into their curriculum, stating that collective efforts are needed to preserve and promote the rich linguistic legacy of the region. He also announced that the students securing maximum marks in their respective classes in Dogri from Ist to 5th standards will be given awards every year by Dogri Sanstha Jammu.
During the programme, school children presented vibrant cultural performances, showcasing the richness of Dogri traditions through music, dance, and recitations, which were highly appreciated by the audience.
The event concluded on a note of optimism, with renewed commitment towards strengthening the presence of Dogri language in educational institutions and public life.
