Kathua MVD Cracks Down on Traffic Violators; 26 Booked, Two Vehicles Impounded
7/28/2026 10:39:57 PM
Early Times Report
KATHUA, July 28: In a renewed push to strengthen road safety and enforce traffic discipline, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), Kathua, carried out a surprise enforcement drive along the Billawar-Mahanpur road on Tuesday, resulting in action against several motorists for violating traffic regulations. The operation was spearheaded by ARTO Kapil Deol, with Motor Vehicles Inspector (MVI) Rahul and other enforcement officials. A temporary checking point was set up to verify vehicle documents and ensure compliance with provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. During the inspection, 126 vehicles were checked, and 26 motorists were found violating traffic rules. All violators were issued e-challans, with the total penalty amounting to Rs 2.24 lakh. Taking a tough stance against serious offences, the department impounded two vehicles and forwarded recommendations for the suspension of two driving licences, indicating stricter action against repeat offenders and those posing a risk to public safety. Besides enforcement, the officials conducted an awareness campaign, appealing to drivers-particularly commercial vehicle operators-to carry valid documents, wear seat belts where applicable, avoid using mobile phones while driving, and follow all traffic regulations. They also warned that violations such as overspeeding, overloading and driving under the influence of alcohol, would be dealt with firmly. Addressing the media after the drive, ARTO Kapil Deol said the department is committed to making roads safer through sustained enforcement and public awareness. He emphasized that similar checking drives will continue across Kathua district and that no leniency will be shown to those found endangering the lives of road users. The drive is part of the department's ongoing strategy to improve compliance with traffic laws, curb reckless driving, and create a safer road environment for the public.
