UDHAMPUR, July 29: Former Indian Hockey Captain, AICC Secretary and Jammu & Kashmir Congress Co-Incharge Pargat Singh on Wednesday visited Udhampur and held an organisational meeting with Congress leaders and workers, emphasising the need to further strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
Pargat Singh was accorded a warm welcome by District Congress Committee (DCC) President Sumeet Magotra, senior party leaders and Congress workers upon his arrival.
During the meeting, party leaders and workers exchanged views on organisational matters and discussed strategies to expand the Congress base across the district. Several speakers appreciated the efforts of DCC President Sumeet Magotra, stating that he has been working tirelessly to strengthen the organisation while actively raising public issues and maintaining close contact with the people.
Addressing the gathering, Pargat Singh criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that it is pursuing divisive politics and has failed to generate adequate employment opportunities for the country's youth. He also condemned the reported treatment of students during the recent protest at Jantar Mantar, describing the alleged use of pellet guns against students as unfortunate and a serious concern for democracy.
Highlighting the role of the Congress leadership, Pargat Singh said that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has consistently fought for the rights of students and youth, raising their concerns both on the streets and in Parliament. He reaffirmed the Congress Party's commitment to protecting the interests and future of young people.
Drawing from his experience as a former international hockey player, Pargat Singh encouraged the youth to actively participate in sports, stating that sporting activities promote physical fitness while instilling discipline, confidence and leadership qualities. |
