| Congress holds massive Kissan Rally at Swankha, reaffirms commitment to farmers' welfare | | |  Early Times Report
SAMBA, July 29: In a major outreach to the farming community, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Kissan Congress today organised a grand Kissan Rally at Swankha under the leadership of JKPCC Kissan Congress Chairman Bharat Priye. The rally was held in the presence of AICC Secretary, Jalandhar Cantt MLA and AICC In-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, Pargat Singh, who addressed a large gathering of farmers, Congress workers and local residents. The rally was attended by several senior Congress leaders, including former Minister Yash Pal Kundal, DCC President Sanjeev Sharma, Kissan Cell President Darshan Lal, former Sarpanch and senior Congress leader Tirath Ram, Janak Raj, Babbal Gupta and Sardar Bachan Singh, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Pargat Singh lauded the efforts of the JKPCC Kissan Congress in mobilising farmers and highlighting their genuine concerns. He said that the Congress Party has always stood firmly with the farming community and remains committed to protecting the interests of cultivators, labourers and other weaker sections of society. He emphasized that the strength of the Congress lies in its grassroots workers and called upon party cadres to further strengthen the organisation by reaching every village and every household. Speaking on the occasion, Bharat Priye said that farmers are the backbone of the nation's economy and deserve policies that ensure fair remuneration, reliable irrigation, affordable agricultural inputs and timely institutional support. He reiterated that the Congress Party would continue to raise issues affecting farmers, including rising cultivation costs, inadequate marketing facilities, irrigation challenges and the need for comprehensive support to the agriculture sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged the government to adopt farmer-friendly policies, strengthen rural infrastructure and ensure that welfare schemes reach every eligible cultivator without delay. Bharat Priye also appealed to the farming community to remain united in safeguarding their rights and to actively participate in democratic processes aimed at securing their future.
Former Minister Yash Pal Kundal stressed the need for sustained efforts to address the aspirations of rural communities and strengthen the agricultural economy. He said that empowering farmers is essential for achieving balanced development and ensuring the prosperity of villages across Jammu and Kashmir. |
