Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 1: A meeting of General Category People's Front was held under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Banathia, Chairman of the Front and discussed in detail the demands of the General Category people. Addressing the meeting Yash Paul Sanson, President of the Front alleged that the governments have fostered caste based vote bank politics by labeling certain professions as caste. Sanson strongly condemned the deliberate attempt of vested political parties and some ethnic groups, projecting general category people as elites. It is a false narrative propagated by them today, there are economically backward families in every caste that need special support measures (SSM) He demanded eradication of caste based reservation. All the privileges, special concessions, quotas and relief given to the people on the basis of caste be withdrawn. Front with one voice decided to support Reservation Hatao Aandolan (RHA). Som Nath Sharma, General Secretary of the Front, called upon General Category to ruminate over their unpleasant situation and teach a lesson to the political parties that played divisive caste based vote bank politics and followed appeasement polity ignored basic principles of equality, justice, liberty and dignity. He appealed to the Govt. of India to remove restrictions imposed on the fair use of fundamental rights.
Front members including V.K. Sharma, Bhushan Pargal and others raised their demands which included repeal of U.G.C Act, abolition of reservation, ending of all freebies, eradication of SC/ST Atrocities Act, promotion of Meritocracy, constitution of General Category Commission and legal provision of 'Equality Act' to ensure equal laws and equal rights of all citizens. Jagdish Dogra in his address highlighted the financial distress caused by raising inflation, multiple taxes and record unemployment. He also expressed dismay over donation theft in Ram Mandir and demanded legal provision of" All India Hindu Shrines and Temples Act"with representative character and no government control. He demanded 200 units free electricity to all domestic consumers and enhancement of Medical Allowance of employees and pensioners from Rs. 300/- to Rs. 1000/- per month as in other U.T's. In JKUT, the population of General Category is about 70% but they are awarded only 30% reservation which is great injustice. He demanded 50% limit should not be breached and reservation should not be extended indefinitely. He also demanded exclusion of creamy layer from reservation.
Banathia thanked all participants for their sincere support.
