| Sham Lal Sharma visits landslide-affected area in Kheri | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 9: MLA Jammu North Sham Lal Sharma today conducted an on-the-spot visit of the landslide-affected area at Teli Mohalla, Kheri, Ward No. 6, Panchayat Keran, to assess the extent of damage and review the situation faced by local residents. During the visit, he interacted with the affected families and other residents, took detailed feedback regarding their immediate difficulties and assessed the availability of essential relief and rehabilitation assistance on the ground.
The recent landslide has caused major damage to residential properties, with the houses of three families being completely damaged. Taking serious note of the situation, Sham Lal Sharma reviewed the condition of the affected families and emphasized that their immediate safety, shelter and basic necessities must be addressed on priority. He also took cognizance of the fact that the affected families had not yet received adequate relief material and directed the concerned authorities to ensure immediate assistance.
Sham Lal Sharma spoke with SDM North regarding the urgent requirement of alternate shelter for the three affected families. He stressed that the families whose houses have been rendered completely unsafe must be shifted to secure accommodation without delay, particularly in view of the possibility of further rainfall and the vulnerability of the affected area. He called for expeditious arrangements so that the affected families do not remain exposed to risk or adverse weather conditions.
He further urged the concerned departments to ensure that essential relief material, ration, food supplies and other necessary items reach the affected families by this evening without fail and also to maintain regular contact with the affected households, assess their requirements on a continuing basis and ensure that no genuine need goes unattended. The MLA also called for immediate deployment and coordination of available resources for relief and rescue operations in the affected area. Sham Lal Sharma asked the field staff to remain vigilant during the monsoon and promptly respond to any further incidents or emergency situations.
During the visit, officers and field representatives from the Revenue Department, Flood Control Department, PHE, R&B and RDD/Block Administration were present. The officers were asked to coordinate closely, undertake a joint assessment of the affected area, ensure immediate relief and shelter arrangements, and expedite all necessary works related to safety, restoration and rehabilitation.
Sham Lal Sharma reiterated that the administration and concerned departments must remain fully responsive to the needs of people affected by natural calamities and assured the residents that every possible effort would be made to provide timely relief, ensure their safety and facilitate rehabilitation of the affected families. |
