10/24/2026 9:52:06 PM
Early Times Report

SAMBA/KATHUA, Oct 24: In a major enforcement drive to curb the diversion and misuse of habit-forming drugs, the Drugs Control Department has suspended the operations of 17 pharmaceutical establishments in Samba and Kathua districts for violating licence conditions, particularly failure to maintain sales records through computerized billing systems.
The surprise inspections, conducted by team of Drugs Control Officers under the supervision of the Assistant Drugs Controller, Samba/Kathua, covered rural and far-flung areas. Of the 17 establishments found violating norms, eight were in Samba and nine in Kathua. Their operations were disallowed pending compliance with the prescribed requirements.
In a separate action, 400 capsules of Pemagyl and SP NYL, manufactured by M/s Shiv Shakti Pharma, Haryana were confiscated from the supply chain due to deficiencies in mandatory record-keeping. The licences of two other pharmaceutical establishments were also cancelled for violations of prescribed conditions.
State Drugs Controller J&K, Rajesh Kumar urged chemists and wholesalers to strictly comply with the Department’s Restriction Order and refrain from procuring Pregabalin 300 mg, Tapentadol, Tramadol and other habit-forming formulations from unauthorized suppliers outside Jammu and Kashmir or through online platforms and courier services in violation of applicable restrictions.
Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration J&K Khalid Jahangir reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug addiction, stressing that strict enforcement and cooperation from the pharmaceutical trade are essential to prevent the misuse of medicinal preparations. The Department said such drives will continue, with special focus on vulnerable rural and remote areas, to strengthen regulatory compliance and prevent the unauthorized diversion of habit-forming drugs.
