Kishtwar, Sept 10: In a significant development, Kishtwar police today registered an FIR against National Highway of India Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) over the issue of loss of precious lives in an accident three weeks ago at Kuligad.
On 20-08-2018, at around 10:45 hours, a Matador and Car carrying Machail Mata devotees was struck by shooting stone/slide at Kuligad, in which some yatries died on spot while other got injured. On receipt of this information Police party reached the spot and shifted the died/injured persons to District Hospital Kishtwar/Government Hospital Thathri.
The inquiry that was conducted into the incident found that the incident in question has occurred due to negligence and carelessness of NHIDCL leading to loss of precious life.
Accordingly an FIR under offence U/S 336/304 RPC was registered against NHIDCL and its contractor SRM Contractors.
After registration of an FIR, Notice u/s 160 Cr.PC was issued against Managing Director SRM Contractors Private Limited and also to General Manager (P) NHIDCL Branch office Jammu through SSP Jammu with the direction to cooperate with the investigation officer.
It is pertinent to mention that NHIDCL responsible for Repair/Restoration Maintenance and other allied work approved by the Public Department PWD (R&B) Department Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir on Batote Kishtwar Sinthantop Section of NH-244 to the contractor for NHIDCL entrusted with the task for Repair and Maintenance had spent a huge amount on the restoration, repair and maintenance of Kuligad slide near Thathri whereas on ground the condition of the road as of now is the same as on 2016 which suggested that due to the negligent approach of the executing agencies i.e (NHIDCL) traffic accident occurred on spot of slide, resulting into loss of seven (07) precious lives and 12 other sustained serious injuries due to the rough surface and narrowness of the road on this spot.
