Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, June 1: A councilor belonging to the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has created havoc in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of Municipal Committee, Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district as he is harassing the employees of the committee.
Sources told Early Times that the councilor of ward number 2 has been harassing the employees in general especially those who are busy in ensuring that the municipal laws are followed in the construction in the areas falling under this particular municipal committee.
The concerned staff has been facing the ire of this councilor and they are receiving threatening calls.
“The concerned staff and the other employees are being harassed since they are acting tough against the violators of municipal laws. The councilor is acting as an impediment in the overall functioning of the municipal committee and same has not gone well with the overall employee fraternity of the municipal committee,” said sources.
Sources said that it was only after this that they moved an application Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Awantipora. The Executive Officer has also forwarded the complaint of employees to the President of the Municipal Committee, Awantipora. In their representation to the Executive Officer the employees had complained that on May 27, 2021, the councilor of ward number 2 supported the illegal/un-authorized construction of a commercial complex near a private school at Bohu road.
The representation further said that the councilor released the seized instruments and allowed the violators to resume the illegal/unauthorized construction adding that nick names were given to the employees working in the Khilafwarzi/building permission section of the Office of Municipal Committee, Awantipora.
It adds that the councilor always takes cudgels with the staff of the municipal committee while favouring illegal things and matters. Following this the Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Awantipora shot a correspondence to the President Municipal Committee, Awantipora asking him to take necessary action against the councilor.
On this the President of Municipal Committee, Awantipora issued a show cause notice to the councilor on May 29, 2021 and asked him to explain his position within two days before any action is taken against him. Although, two days have passed since then but no action has been taken so far against the erring councilor.
