After the arrest of two accused, Rajender Chaudhary alias Raju and Balbir Singh alias Billa three days back, Harmeet Singh and Harpreet Singh Khalsa were absconding. Now with the arrest of Harmeet Singh cops are likely to get more leads.
“Arrest of Harmeet Singh is a big success for cops because he (Harmeet Singh) is alleged mastermind of the murder”, sources said and added that some locals from Jammu are likely to be questioned by Delhi Police in this regard.
Notable on September 12 Harmeet Singh had posted a purported confession letter on Facebook. In the letter, Harmeet claimed he had killed Wazir because contract killers had been hired to target him and his son. He also claimed he and the other suspect, Khalsa, were going to kill themselves. The police, however, couldn’t catch him as he switched off his phone soon after posting the letter.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said the accused, Harmeet Singh, has been arrested from Jammu.
The case of murder was later transferred to the crime branch which along with assistance from the Special Cell of Delhi Police was working on the case to nab the suspects.
The decomposed body of Trilochan Singh Wazir with the head wrapped in a plastic bag was found on September 9 in a washroom of the flat, which was taken on rent by his acquaintance Harpreet Singh (31), a native of Amritsar, according to police.
This is the third arrest in the case so far while raids are still being conducted to nab Harpreet Singh who is still at large.
After interrogation of Raju, Delhi Police had claimed on Wednesday that four persons were present during the incident on September 3 where Wazir was shot dead,” reports quoting senior officer of Delhi Police.
Reports said Raju and Balbir Singh were reportedly in New Delhi and around the scene of the crime in West Delhi.
The electronic location of Raju was shown to be on the place of crime on the day of the high-profile murder.
During interrogation Raju had told police that the murder took place on September 3 between 9-10 pm and before the murder, Trilochan Singh Wazir was given water mixed with sedatives. As the former law-maker fell unconscious after drinking water, which was mixed with sedatives, Harpreet allegedly shot him dead. The body was later thrown in the washroom.
Initial investigation has revealed that the main motive of the accused was to kidnap Wazir and demand ransom from his family, but they decided to eliminate him after they found that he had transferred all his money to his family in Canada.
