Terror threats: Police mull crackdown on suspects linked to media
11/18/2022 11:10:16 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 18: Even as the Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified investigations into the terror threats recently received by some journalists here, “a crackdown is most likely in the coming days on the suspects linked to media.”
It was reliably learnt that the police have zeroed in on around half a dozen persons linked to media, who may be part of the conspiracy to defame journalists and also in the issuance of the death threats against them.
The sources said the south Srinagar zone police under the Shergarhi Police Station has constituted a high level team to scrutinize credentials of a group of persons linked to media in Kashmir, “who have been under the radar of the security and the intelligence grid for their shady activities.”
It was reliably learnt that they could be called for questioning with regard to the issuance of terror threat by the Kashmir Fight portal linked to the Lashkar and its offshoot The Resistance Front.
Around two dozen journalists recently received death threats from the Kashmir Fight portal and its social media handles, which posted grossly anti-national content and threats repeatedly.
The Srinagar police is also ascertaining the details of the persons running the social media handles.
It’s pertinent to mention that the police have already filed dossier whereby the “epicenter of the death threats are being rooted to Turkey apart from Pakistan where from the Kashmir Fight operates.”
A senior official told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that the security grid was fully prepared to foil any such nefarious designs of the terror groups and that those being part of the conspiracy to derail peace and prosperity in Kashmir would be strictly dealt with.
At least five journalists had resigned from their jobs following the threats. The Editors Guild of India has condemned the threats.
