Delay in appointment of new SMVDU V-C raises many eye-brows
• Tenure of the incumbent V-C ended in August 2022
5/8/2023 11:03:25 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 8: Over nine months passed after the incumbent Vice Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Prof Ravinder Kumar Sinha completed his tenure but no decision has been taken over appointing his successor. The delay in appointing the new Vice-Chancellor of this prestigious institute has raised many eyebrows because the Search Committee, specially formulated to select new Vice-Chancellor, has started the process of inviting applications for this post in December 2022.
Important to mention here that Prof Ravinder Kumar Sinha was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of this prestigious institute when Satya Pal Malik was Governor of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Important to mention here that the Search Committee has started the process of inviting applications from eligible candidates for selection of the new Vice-Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra.
An advertisement in this regard was issued on December 2 by SMVDU Registrar, according to which, January 2, 2023, was the last date for submission of application forms for the top post. The candidate should not be more than 65 years of age as on the closing date of receipt of applications of this advertisement.
Further, the applicant must have a minimum of 10 years experience as a Professor, and the application form should have references of three nominations, preferably by any present or former Vice-Chancellor of State university, or equivalent.
Highly placed sources said that the Search Committee has completed its process and now the decision in this regard has been to be taken by the higher-ups.
The functioning of this university, which was once considered as one of the best educational institutes of the country, is badly being affected due to the delay in appointing its head.
Pertinent to mention that the incumbent Vice-Chancellor of SMVDU, Prof Ravindra Kumar Sinha has already completed his three-year tenure since August 5, 2022.
