BJP divided over Lal Singh’s arrest before Diwali

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 13: The decision of the BJP Lok Sabha member from Jammu, Jugal Kishore Sharma to maintain a guarded silence over the arrest of veteran politician Choudhary Lal Singh by the Enforcement Directorate is a clear indication that the Saffron Party is divided on this issue.
Instead of speaking in a unanimous voice on this issue, BJP leaders are speaking in different languages over the arrest of Lal Singh.
During an informal chat with media persons at Jammu during a function to celebrate Vishwakarma Day, senior BJP leader and sitting Lok Sabha member Jugal Kishore Sharma refused to say any word about the arrest of Choudhary Lal Singh. “I am not aware of any development in this issue. I do not know what is the case”, Jugal Kishore Sharma said while feigning ignorance over the arrest of Choudhary Lal Singh by the ED.
“Instead of asking me these questions you better ask such queries from the Enforcement Directorate”, Sharma said.
Highly placed sources said that BJP leaders are divided over action taken against Choudhary Lal Singh, especially before Diwali.
“There is a feeling among BJP leaders that the arrest of Choudhary Lal Singh by ED before Diwali would prove disastrous for the party in some areas because a narrative has been created that Singh was intentionally arrested before the festival to teach him a lesson”, sources said and added that some party leaders of the opinion that supporters of Choudhary Lal Singh will play a victim card.
After grilling him for three days, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) formally arrested Lal Singh in a money laundering case on November 7.
The ED arrested Singh after his anticipatory bail was rejected by the anti-corruption court in Jammu.
Soon after his pre-arrest bail was rejected, the ED teams started a search for Lal Singh and arrested him from the house of a contractor Suraj Singh near Duggar Haveli at Chowadi on the outskirts of the City.
