Poll results rekindle hope of simultaneous assembly, Lok Sabha elections in J&K

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 4: The historic victory of the BJP in the assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh rekindled hope of maiden assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
As the BJP has created history in these elections, a group within the party is seriously thinking of holding Lok Sabha and assembly elections simultaneously in J&K.
“Morale of BJP workers across the country is very high after the party’s victory in the three states of Hindi heartland where the party has snatched two states from Congress and retained power in crucial Madhya Pradesh”, a senior BJP leader told The Early Times.
Highly placed sources said that during his recent visit to the Jammu region, the national general secretary organization of BJP B L Santhosh also dropped hints of conducting assembly elections along with Lok Sabha polls in case the party performs on excepted lines in the assembly elections of five states.
“Victory of the party in three crucial states has brightened hope of assembly and Lok Sabha elections in J&K”, the BJP leader, wishing anonymity, said.
As reported earlier Santhosh sought feedback from the workers about the performances and achievements of the two sitting Lok Sabha members of the party in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir has been without an elected government since June 2018 when BJP dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) followed by the resignation of the then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
Five months later, on November 28, 2018, then Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik dissolved the legislative assembly minutes after Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP staked a claim to form the government with the support of Congress and the National Conference.
A month later on December 19, 2018, then President Ram Nath Kovind issued a proclamation promulgating President's Rule in J&K under article 356 of the Constitution of India.
Eight months later on August 5, 2019, the BJP government abrogated Article 370 and bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
