Higher reaches receive light snowfall

Srinagar, Jan 28: The upper reaches of Kashmir valley received a light snowfall on Sunday while rain lashed plains, ending about a two-month-long dry spell, much to the delight of the people.
The tourist resorts of Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Doodhpathri, Tangmarg, Gurez Valley, Tragbal in Bandipora, and Kernah in Kupwara received light to moderate snowfall.
The tourists at the ski resort of Gulmarg were jubilant, watching the snowfall and clicking memorable pictures. The tourists were seen frolicking with the snow, expressing their joy.
Srinagar and its adjoining areas experience light rains, ending a long dry spell of weather much to the delight of the residents.
Reports of light rainfall were also received from several areas of the Kashmir valley.
Meteorological Centre Srinagar has predicted light to moderate rain and snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
There is a possibility of light to moderate rain or snow at many places in J&K, with heavy snowfall over isolated higher reaches of Kashmir Division, including Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Shopian, Anantnag, and Kulgam districts, from Sunday afternoon to January 29 late afternoon, the MeT office said.
It said that from January 30-31, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain or snow at many places in J&K, with chances of heavy snowfall over a few higher reaches, while the weather will remain generally cloudy with light rain or snow at many places towards late afternoon or evening on February 1-2.
