Glimpse of new India
2/11/2024 10:33:48 PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s closing address in the Lok Sabha on the last day of the Budget session resonated with optimism and a vision for a 21st century India.
An important achievement mentioned by the Prime Minister was the increased productivity of the 17th Lok Sabha. With a record 97% productivity, the legislative body demonstrably functioned at a new level of efficiency. This translates to more bills passed, more discussions held, and potentially, more progress made.
Additionally, the inauguration of the new Parliament building symbolizes a renewed commitment to democratic infrastructure and national pride.
Further, the Prime Minister emphasized significant legislative reforms. Key among them were the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, the decriminalization of minor offenses under the Jan Vishwas Act, and the scrapping of over 60 outdated laws.
These steps signify a willingness to address social and bureaucratic bottlenecks, potentially leading to greater inclusivity and ease of doing business.
The address also showcased initiatives focused on empowering marginalized communities. The passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill stands out as a potential game-changer for gender equality in political representation.
Similarly, the Ayushman Bharat scheme expands healthcare access for millions, and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has brought financial inclusion to countless previously unbanked individuals.
These steps, if effectively implemented, have the potential to uplift vulnerable communities and contribute to overall national development.
The Prime Minister pointed to economic reforms such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) as cornerstones of India’s economic transformation. While the impact of these reforms remain a subject of discussion, they represent attempts to modernize the economic landscape and improve overall financial health.
Additionally, initiatives like “Start-up India” and “Digital India” highlight a focus on fostering innovation and technological advancement, crucial for a globally competitive 21st century economy.
It’s important to acknowledge that Prime Minister Modi’s address highlighted the importance of truly building a strong foundation for a 21st century India.
He maintained that effective implementation, transparency, and accountability remain key to the success of any reform, and ongoing scrutiny and constructive criticism are essential components of a healthy democracy.
While Prime Minister Modi’s Lok Sabha address presented a positive vision of progress and reform. Only through continued vigilance, open dialogue, and effective implementation can the “game-changing reforms” outlined become the building blocks of a truly empowered and prosperous 21st century India.
