Jammu, Feb 25: A day after party leaders urged upon Mehbooba Mufti to contest the Parliamentary election on the prestigious Anantnag-Rajouri seats, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday dropped hints of leaving two Lok Sabha seats of Jammu province for Congress. Today leaders of the Jammu region met with party president Mehbooba Mufti to discuss the prevailing political situation in this part of the Union Territory and the party’s strategy for the forthcoming Parliamentary elections. “Although few leaders suggested fielding candidates on two seats of Jammu province, the majority of the leaders were of the opinion that the party must leave Jammu-Reasi and Udhampur-Doda Lok Peoples’ Democratic Party has dropped hints of leaving two Lok Sabha seats of Jammu province for Congress. Today leaders from Jammu region met the party president Mehbooba Mufti and put forth their views Majority of the PDP leaders were of the opinion that the party must leave 2 seats for the Congress. PDP has nothing at stake on 2 Lok Sabha seats of Jammu province. Sabha seats for the Congress to keep the Grand Old Party in good humour”, sources said. Sources said that the PDP was ready to repeat 2019 experience when party had fielded candidates on three seats in Kashmir Valley but supported Congress candidates on two Lok Sabha seats in Jammu province. Sources said that party leaders pointed out that PDP has nothing at stake on two Lok Sabha seats of Jammu province so it would be better to support Congress candidates on these seats. As reported earlier, during Saturday’s meeting all PDP leaders from Poonch and Rajouri districts have urged upon the party president Mehbooba Mufti to contest the Lok Sabha election from the newly carved Anantnag-Rajouri seat. |
