Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 17: Following the announcement of the poll schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections by the Election Commission of India, a political rally held in Jammu garnered significant attention as scores of people flocked the venue after they were promised essential food provisions and computer diploma certificates.
The rally, organized by a prominent political party, saw a diverse crowd comprising men, women, and children from different socio-economic backgrounds converging at the venue.
Many attendees expressed their reasons for attending, with some citing promises of 10 kilograms of wheat and 5 kilograms of rice as a major draw. "I came here because they promised us wheat and rice," said one of the participants. "Times have been tough, and any assistance with food supplies would be a great help to my family," he added.
In addition to promises of essential commodities, several attendees mentioned their interest in listening to political leaders speak and witnessing special events, such as the distribution of computer diploma certificates to their children. "I want to hear what the leaders have to say about our issues and concerns and my son is getting a computer diploma certificate today, so it's a special occasion for us," said another participant.
A critic said that such short-term incentives may draw crowds but they do little to address the root causes of poverty and inequality. "Handing out food and certificates may garner votes in the short term, but it does not address the systemic issues plaguing our society," said one the participants.
