New Delhi, Aug 14: Kuldeep Kumar Gupta Secretary Vansh Sabre Sports Federation told to Ms.P.T Usha President Indian Olympic Association to take up the matter with Ministry of Indian Railway to reinstate Railway Concession for Sportsperson for participation in All India, State Tournaments and National Tournaments.
Moreover Mr.Gupta draw your kind attention towards few lines of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Sh. Narendra Modi’s ambition to host the Olympic Games in 2036, during the International Olympic Committee (IOC’s) congress in Mumbai last year. India would leave “No Stone Unturned” in bringing the snowpiece to the country for the first time. Moreover Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Sh.Narendra Modi is doing all the efforts to popularize the Sports at all level from Metrocities to Small Townships to village level and is also boosting the moral of the players for organizing the Khelo India Games & Khelo India University Games and have a vision to be organized “Tribal Khelo” India Games in near future to search the talent in different disciplines. Sportsman has been availing railway concession for participation in All India, State Tournament and National Tournament held in India in the different disciplines.
The Indian Railway in addition to concession also provide support to the different Sports Federations for their athletes and teams for train journey to participate in the All India, State and National Tournaments. The detail of the railway concession for sportspersons are reproduced as under:-
Sportsmen Participation Percentage of Concession
All India & State Tournament and National Tournament i) 75% in 2nd Class
ii) 50% in Ist Class
Now Ministry of Railway has cancelled the Railway Concession w.e.f 20.03.2020 for participation of sportsperson(s) in All India, State Tournament and National Tournament as a result the players travel without concession with heavy pressure in mind and are not able to perform for good results which we expect from them in the interest of UT/State to mark their steps towards India Map.
It is pertinent to mention here that the sportspersons have to travel across the length and breadth of the country to participate in the All India, State Tournament & National Level Tournaments but with withdrawal of this concession, it will obviously hamper the participation of athletes and teams in various tournaments and may lead to shut down of National Championships since the IOA Member Units Federations and Associations in different disciplines may not have funds to bear the additional costs of up to 75% discounts on Railway fares.
As you can appreciate that the Indian Olympic Association, National Sports Federation, Sports Authority of India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports are putting all out efforts to popularize sports at the grass root level and have launched many schemes to promote and develop sports even in the most remote parts of the country.
Further, it is requested to take up the matter with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and the Ministry of Indian Railways to reinstate Railway Concession in the interest of sportsperson.
