Jammu, Aug 22: Kickstarting the election campaign for Assembly polls from Jammu, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi vociferously raked up locals and non-local issue to corner the ruling BJP during electioneering.
“Being a land of Dogras Jammu has its own unique and cherished history, identity culture, and ethos. This is the land of Mata Vaishno Devi but some forces are trying to eradicate Jammu’s distinct culture and identity”, Rahul Gandhi said while addressing party workers at Jammu.
The Leader of the Opposition, however, asserted that the Congress is committed to protecting the history, culture, and identity of the Jammu region.
“Unlike BJP and RSS who are desperate to centralize the whole country, the Congress strongly believes in the decentralization of power at the grassroots to empower the common masses”, he said and promised Congress will protect the rights of the people of Jammu region.
While promising to restore the dignity and honour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Rahul Gandhi said that Congress is committed to protecting the interests of all sections and sub-sections of society.
“As long as Congress workers are there, no one can destroy history and identity of Jammu”, he asserted.

“It is very unfortunate that locals have been denied opportunities and contractors are allocated to outsiders and this attitude of the present dispensation causing unrest among the local business community”, he said. He emphasized that restoring statehood and representation for the people of Jammu and Kashmir is a top priority for the Congress party.
Gandhi expressed his deep connection with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as a relationship of love and family. He assured them that he is their soldier in Delhi, committed to fighting for their interests.
Gandhi claimed that Congress workers have created psychological tension for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, causing his confidence to collapse. He encouraged Congress workers to fight for their ideology, promising to respect their contributions.
Gandhi concluded by pledging to protect Jammu's interests and identity, saying, "You know your sipahi is in Delhi. Anything you want, you can tell me, and I will do that."
This speech highlights Gandhi's commitment to restoring statehood and representation for Jammu and Kashmir, while also emphasizing the importance of protecting the region's unique culture and identity.
