Maid arrested for stealing jewellery

SRINAGAR, Jan 17: Police have arrested a maid hours after she committed the theft in a house and recovered the stolen jewellery from her possession in Srinagar.
Police Station Shaltang received an application from one woman identified as Aimen Akhzar daughter of Peerzada Akhzar Hussain resident of Umerabad Srinagar stating therein that during the intervening night of January 15/16, 2025, some unknown thieves barged into her residential house while her mother and father were outside the country for performing Umrah and stolen some jewellery items, Police said.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 04/2025 under relevant section of law was registered in Police Station Shaltang and investigation initiated, they said.
“During the course of the investigation, some suspects were called for questioning and the role of one suspect namely Janatul Begum (working as the maid) wife of Mohd Chotu resident of Ward No. 7 Kusthan Madhepur Bihar A/P HMT Srinagar was ascertained in the commission of crime”, police said. Upon her disclosure, the stolen Jewellery was recovered.
Police urged the citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearby Police unit or Dial-112 without delay so that prompt action against the culprits will be taken.
