1/20/2025 10:26:26 PM

Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Jan 20: A soldier was martyred in an ongoing anti-militancy operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore sub-district, official sources said on Monday.
The operation was launched by joint forces on Sunday evening at Zaloora, Gujjarpati area of Sopore during which a hideout was busted.
Police said during a cordon and a search operation (CASO), firing observed from inside and the area was cordoned off.
Official sources said a soldier who was part of the advance team of the joint forces was critically injured in the exchange of fire with terrorists. The soldier was moved to the medical facility where he succumbed to the injuries, they added.
The Army has not so far confirmed the death of the soldier during the encounter.
Army Srinagar based Chinar Corp said that one soldier was critically injured during the ongoing operation.
“Operation is in progress,” Chinar Corps said.
On late Sunday, the Army said the operation was carried out after receiving an intelligence input regarding suspicious activities.
Official sources said, following an exchange of fire late Sunday, a tight cordon was maintained in the area during the night and searches by the joint forces were resumed early this morning.
“There has been no fresh contact with terrorists and the search operation is underway,” the sources said.
The anti-militancy operation is being carried out at a time when security has been stepped up across Kashmir ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.
During a recent security review meeting, Kashmir Inspector General of Police V. K. Birdi instructed officers to maintain high level alertness.
