Tony demands SSP-Level SIT in Sainik Colony case
10/4/2025 9:07:46 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 4: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, has demanded an upgraded, high-powered Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by an officer of at least SSP rank in the Sainik Colony murder and firing case to ensure justice and restore public confidence in the system.
Tony said that only a fair and professional probe by a powerful SIT can uphold the credibility of law and order in the Union Territory. He welcomed the DGP’s move to constitute an SIT but stressed the need for reputed and result-oriented officers from diverse backgrounds to ensure transparency and balance.
As the Sainik Colony case has revealed the connivance of some serving and retired police officers, Tony demanded that the upgraded SIT should thoroughly probe their role. He alleged that a few senior officers are trying to scuttle the investigation, as either they or their relatives are linked to the unfair practices. Sources also indicated that some retired officers could be the actual owners of the land where illegal activities were going on for the past 15 months.
“This is nothing but murder of justice. Officers involved must face strict action. Jammu division must have balanced representation of Sikh, Mahajan, Brahmin and other communities, instead of being dominated by a single caste. The DGP should post reputed and result-oriented officers from every background. People of J&K will no longer tolerate a two-faced justice system,” Tony thundered.
Tony also accused the BJP of operating a system of two sets of laws. “If a BJP leader is involved in any crime, the case is closed, buried, or dragged for years. But for ordinary people, cases are fabricated overnight. There are two laws in this country—one that protects BJP leaders, and another that persecutes common citizens,” he charged.
Referring to the cow smuggling case involving a BJP leader and former Jammu Mayor, Tony said, “It took two years and court directions to even get an FIR registered. This exposes the rot in the system.”
He further alleged political misuse of security, saying that even junior-most BJP leaders enjoy multiple PSOs while senior opposition leaders are left vulnerable.
Tony also lashed out at BJP’s “divisive propaganda,” saying branding Punjabis as Khalistanis, Bengalis as Bangladeshis, Kashmiris as Pakistanis, and Ladakhis as Chinese is an insult to Indians themselves. “Such tactics weaken national unity and divide communities for votes,” he said.
Calling for a united fight against the drug menace, Tony urged police to act firmly against the drug mafia instead of harassing farmers and drivers. “Drugs are eating our society like termites. Every citizen must take responsibility in this battle—we cannot leave everything to the police,” he appealed.
