Early Times Report REASI, Oct 4: Continuing its efforts to strengthen police-public relations and promote sportsmanship among youth, District Police Reasi organized a Cricket Tournament under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sports Stadium, Katra. The tournament was inaugurated by SSP Reasi, Sh. Paramvir Singh, JKPS, alongwith Addl. SP Katra Sh. Vipan Chandran-JKPS, SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey-JKPS and SHO P/S Katra Inspr. Khyatimaan Khajuria in the presence of prominent citizens, civil dignitaries, and a large number of spectators. The event commenced with the singing of the National Anthem, filling the atmosphere with patriotic fervor. A total of eight teams from Tehsil Katra are participating in the tournament. The opening match was played between Baba Agar Jitto Cricket Club and Nityanand Panthal Cricket Club, which turned out to be an exciting contest between two talented local sides. Batting first, Baba Jitto Cricket Club posted 125 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Vishal (35), Vikas (20), Jagjeet (16) and Shagun (16) were the key contributors with the bat. For Nityanand Panthal Cricket Club, Ajit took 3 wickets for 33 runs, Shubham picked 2 for 24, Anoop Singh bagged 1 for 18, and Anubandh Singh claimed 2 for 24. In reply, Nityanand Panthal Cricket Club was bowled out for just 79 runs in 17.3 overs. Ajit top-scored with 24 runs, while Sunny contributed 12 runs. The rest of the batting order failed to resist the disciplined bowling attack. Mohit Sharma starred with the ball for Baba Jitto Cricket Club, taking 3 wickets for just 14 runs in his 4-over spell, earning him the Player of the Match award. Baba Jitto Cricket Club won the match by 46 runs and advanced to the next round of the tournament. The event was graced by Sports Club President Sh. Santosh Dogra, Sarpanch Smt. Diksha Devi, Sarpanch Sh. Ravi, Councilor Sh. Ravi Nag, and several other dignitaries. Students of Durga Public Shiksha Niketan also presented colorful cultural performances, adding vibrancy and enthusiasm to the occasion. On the occasion, SSP Reasi Sh. Paramvir Singh-JKPS also met Sh. Rakesh Kumar, a world-class Indian Para-Archer from Katra, who has brought laurels to the nation at various international platforms. SSP Reasi presented a memento to him as a token of appreciation for his remarkable achievements and for inspiring the youth of the region. Speaking on the occasion, SSP Reasi emphasized that such initiatives under the Civic Action Programme aim to channelize youth energy in a positive direction, promote sportsmanship and discipline, and strengthen the bond between Police and the community.
