Early Times Report MALIGAON, Nov 12: In a significant step towards enhancing safety and ensuring smooth rail and road connectivity, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully completed the construction of a crucial Road Over Bridge (ROB) in lieu of Level Crossing Gate No. ST-33 at Chaparmukh. The ROB was inaugurated on 11th November, 2025 by Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, in the presence of senior Railway officials and dignitaries. With the commissioning of this ROB, Level Crossing No. ST-33 has been permanently closed. The newly inaugurated ROB connects Raha (NH-27) to Chaparmukh Railway Junction and further to West Karbi Anglong, significantly improving connectivity and easing movement across the region. The bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 84.6 crore, spans a total length of 1179 meters. This crucial infrastructure project is expected to benefit over 20 lakh commuters, facilitating smooth movement for an estimated 16 lakh vehicles annually. The completion of this ROB will not only enhance road safety by eliminating level crossing hazards but also ensure faster and uninterrupted train operations in the area. With the opening of this ROB, a total of five Level Crossings out of a target of eight have been successfully closed in the Lumding Division under Northeast Frontier Railway, marking another milestone in improving railway safety and infrastructure in the region. Northeast Frontier Railway continues to work towards improving passenger safety and operational efficiency through the construction of more Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) in place of level crossings across its jurisdiction. |
